About this work

On a city square, many soldiers are gathered around a gibbet. A man hangs at the top of the gibbet on a rope. On the right in the foreground a soldier with hands bound behind his back. On the left in the background four prisoners on a wooden horse. Below the image a six-line French verse. This print is part of a series of 17 (18 incl. title print) prints depicting various kinds of misery that warfare brings with it.
