About this work
On a road lined with houses, impoverished soldiers and war victims walk and stumble. They beg from the villagers for alms. In the foreground on the left and right, some lie exhausted against bales of hay. On the left, a clergyman stands by a dying person. Below the image a six-line French verse. This print is part of a series of 17 (18 incl. title print) prints depicting various kinds of misery that warfare brings with it.
