About this work
This print – in fact two images printed on one sheet of parchment – is one of the smallest examples of works on parchment in the Rijksmuseum collection. Printing on this material was rarely done. Antwerp artist Antoon Overlaet probably chose parchment instead of paper to imitate a drawing. He worked mainly after 17th-century models such as Rembrandt and Adriaen van Ostade.
