About this work

The anatomist Andreas Vesalius stands in a room with on the table next to him the corpse of a man for anatomical research. He looks back at the crucifix that hangs on the wall. On the table behind him tools and a skull. On the operating table hangs various tools. Left front a thick book on a stool; next to the operating table an open book on a lectern.
