About this work
Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita is known for his animal depictions. His preference was mainly for exotic animals. Therefore, the subject choice of the snow hare is quite unusual. The artist omitted shadows and details within the hares. Nature served only as a starting point for the ornament. Only the overlapping of the ear of the lower animal indicates that it is in front of the other.
