About this work
Hercules hands over his club to Switzerland. She is accompanied by the five female personifications of Liberty, Prudence, Concord, Wisdom and Fortuna. In the background William Tell shoots the apple from his son's head, under the watchful eye of the Austrian governor. The representation is framed by columns on which the cities that form Switzerland are listed and by garlands carried by putti. With inscription in French.
