About this work
The Society 'Felix Meritis' (Happy through Merit) was founded in 1777 with the aim of practicing sciences and arts. The society consisted of five departments, including that of Drawing. <br>To make the department a full-fledged academy, it was deemed necessary to introduce drawing from a nude male model instead of perspective instruction. Despite the necessary resistance this plan encountered, it was carried through. Here, however, a female-dressed model is placed in the correct pose.
