About this work
The woodcut – a form of relief printing – offers many possibilities for line work. These are optimally utilized here. The cut-away parts leave no traces on the paper, while the higher (unworked) parts do release ink. The black contours in the bird's tail are thus cut-outs, while the fine lines in the staff are carved out.
