About this work
Dutch version of an originally French print justifying the war with the Netherlands. With an explanation of the emblem of the French king, in which he compares himself to the sun and in which the Dutch Lion is defeated (FMH no. 2331A). Below the scene, the French verse and the Dutch translation, on the preparations the French are making for the campaign in 1672. The print is signed with the name 'Phaëton'. The original French emblem was made by Sébastien Le Clerc.
