About this work
Charles of Orleans (1522-1545), third and youngest son of Francis I, received in 1536 the title 'Duke of Orleans'. He married in 1539 Maria, the eldest daughter of Charles V. They would take over the government of the Netherlands from the regent Mary of Hungary. Depicted standing, full-length, half turned to the right. Top right the coat of arms with the ducal crown, broken by the baton.
