About this work
The two women step down the last steps of a stone staircase. Behind them a wall with columns and Gothic wooden pointed arches, probably part of a church interior. The women wear traditional dress from Hindelopen. Both have a book in their hands. The woman on the left holds her apron with her right hand. The woman on the right has a foot warmer on her left arm.
