About this work
Portrait of Jan van Leiden, leader of the Anabaptists in Münster. He holds a scepter in his arm. In his hands he holds a book and a rolled piece of paper. Around his neck he wears a heavy chain with the globe pierced by two swords, the emblem of this self-styled 'King of Münster'. The same emblem is depicted next to his head. Around the print Dutch text in book type.
