About this work

Oedipus in the company of the Sphinx, a monster with the head of a woman, the body of a lion, and the wings of an eagle. He sits thinking about her riddle: 'Which creature has a voice and goes on four legs in the morning, two at noon, and three in the evening?' Whoever did not know the answer was torn apart by the Sphinx. Bottom left, the bodies of previous victims of the Sphinx.
