About this work
Portrait half-length to the right of the poet Jan van Gijsen, bareheaded. In his hand Gijsen holds a roll of paper on which "Helde Digt" is written. Around the oval is an inscription, below the portrait on a pedestal a coat of arms is depicted with text in Dutch to the left and right of it. In the top corners of the print are attributes of the Muses represented, to the left and right above the pedestal two putti sitting on a swan.
