About this work

Equestrian portrait of Gustavus II Adolphus, king of Sweden. In the background the battle of Gartz on the Oder (1631). De Passe used the plate for this portrait from his equestrian portrait of Prince Maurice in the battle of Nieuwpoort made 30 years earlier. Above the print a Bible quote from Proverbs. In the margin the name and title of the sitter, a six-line panegyric in Latin and a four-line panegyric in French.
