Allegory of Pride

Superbia as a fashionably dressed lady, mirror in the right hand, her left hand resting on the head of the peacock, her attribute. The skirt of the gown is foldable. Below it her lower body as a skeleton with Adam and Eve during the Fall. In the frame the personifications of the other six deadly sins are depicted: Gula, Avaritia, Luxuria, Invidia, Ira, Pigritia. Title in cartouche at top center. Inscription: Hoeffart ein Matter aller Sundt [...] all sein Kindt. As an inscription an 8-line verse in German. Bottom center in cartouche a 4-line verse: Der Sündn erkantnuss ist wol gut, kan aber nicht [...] urtheil Gottes nicht entgehn.
