About this work

Polichinelle was a comic figure of the French stage or puppet theatre, recognizable by his multicoloured costume, the spike on his head, his hooked nose, the hump on his back and a huge belly. For the publication, Théodore de Banville wrote a two-line verse which is printed below the print.
