Farmers struck by cattle plague, 1745

Farmers struck by cattle plague complain to a landlord who has arrived at the farm in a carriage with his wife, 1745. On the left the cleaning of the stables and burial of the deceased animals, in the center more sick and dead animals. In the background sunlit meadows with sick and healthy animals, windmills and farms. On the sheet below the plate a description of the events in two columns. In the text the cattle disease is interpreted as punishment by God, a sign of God's wrath, due to sin and ingratitude in the Netherlands. In the text reference is also made to other countries in Europe that have been hit much harder by the cattle plague.
