View from the Nieuwsteegbrug over the devastated area after the gunpowder explosion at the Steenschuur, a canal extending from the Rapenburg, in Leiden on 12 January 1807. Cleanup work after the disaster, centrally the Saaihal, in the distance to the left the Pieterskerk. In the foreground, the body of a victim is being carried away.
