About this work

Allegorical vignette with Stadtholder William V as patron of the university, on the occasion of the Second Centenary of the founding of the University of Leiden on 8 February 1775. The city maiden of Leiden accompanies the prince to Minerva at a colonnade on the Burcht. On the left, the river god of the Rhine; on the right, a trophy of arms; in the foreground, children with books.
