About this work

Landscape with a rider and Death on the shore by a river. The horse the rider sits on shies back in fright at the sight of Death who sits on a grave monument on the left as a skeleton with a scythe. Behind the rider stands a woman with a halo around her head. On the right in the foreground sits a man or woman in a rowing boat and above the water birds fly. On the rocks stands a castle where a figure hangs from a gallows.
