Tribute to Georges Étienne Cartier

Unfinished print with allegories on a very richly decorated monument as a tribute to the Canadian politician Georges Étienne Cartier. His portrait is depicted twice. At the foot of the monument stands his bust in front of an empty medallion flanked by two sea gods. The medallion was probably intended for a map of Canada. On top of the round frame a train is depicted. The second portrait stands entirely at the top on a pillar flanked by two reclining women with different attributes such as books, snakes, stars, measuring instruments, horn and a cartwheel. The four other women are personifications of the four peoples in Canada originating from France, Scotland, Ireland and England recognizable by their attributes, lily, thistle, clover leaf and rose.
