About this work

Allegory of the glory of France. Hercules places a globe with three fleurs-de-lis on the shoulders of Atlas. To their right sit personifications of Asia, Africa, and America. To the upper right, Victoria holds a laurel wreath over the pair and Fama blows a trumpet. On the left, a ship is visible. A putto and a personification of a river hold a cloth with the title of the atlas.
