About this work
Portrait of Philipp Cluver, the founder of historical geography, in an oval on a pedestal with the title of the book. Putti with a trumpet and a telescope and a crowned young man with scepter, key and globe with animals flank the portrait. In front of it sits a writing allegorical female figure, at her feet a globe, a compass, a scroll, an oil lamp and books.
