About this work

View of the African island of São Tomé, ca. 1641. The island was conquered by a Dutch fleet of the WIC under command of Cornelis Cornelisz Jol, alias Houtebeen on 11 October 1641. In the foreground some Dutch ships. In the sky a winged banner with the title decorated with two smoke horns. In the inscription the explanation of the letters A-L in Latin.
