About this work
Clothing. Ihle p. 30, no. 79: The old gentleman is simply dressed, but his children follow the new fashion: the daughter wears a girded overskirt over her gown and sleeves decorated with slits. The son-in-law wears a floppy fall-down collar; his doublet is adorned with slits. The little boy by the dog is recognizable as a boy by his doublet. The other two children are girls. They all still wear a kind of decorative sleeves, which can serve as stays.
