About this work

In this mountain landscape, an aqueduct is visible in the middle ground. All elements, such as the trees in the foreground, are depicted angularly and fragmented. Lodewijk Schelfhout, together with Leo Gestel and Jan Sluijters, played a pioneering role in modern Dutch art and was highly influential on artists of later generations.
