About this work
Mars, dressed as a soldier, lies in the arms of a naked Venus. In the air two turtledoves and Cupid fly, bow and arrow at the ready. At the top of the print in an oval frame the portrait of the Roman poet Lucretius. Above in the corners: to the left the personification of Abundance, to the right the personification of Cruelty. Below in the corners: to the left a feast, to the right war. The print has a Latin inscription.
