About this work
Two courtesans, each followed by a shinzo (courtesan in training) and two kamuro (youngest helper of a courtesan). The pattern of fans, pine and plum blossom branches on the kimono of the shinzo, refers to New Year. Above each of the courtesans a classical poem, allegedly in their own handwriting.
