About this work
The Spanish heathen girl Preciosa and the old woman Majombe. Both figures taken from the story 'La Gitanella' by Miguel de Cervantes from 1613, known in the Netherlands as 'Het Spaans Heidinnetje'. Heathen and heathen girl were contemporary terms for the Roma people.
