About this work
Illustrated album with 36 kyoka (comic poems) on various shells; compiled by the poet Akera Kankô (1736-1799). The images of shells washed up on the beach are by Utamaro; blue cover with waves and birds in gold; top left title strip; nine leaves; two pages, preface; eight illustrations (two pages each), people on the beach, shells on the beach, women viewing shells; last two pages, postscript and colophon. Book kept in red chitsu (foldable box), with on spine: Utamaro Shiohi-no tsuto 1780.
