About this work

A rising moon behind waves splashing against the rocks. This image is based on a passage from the Tosa Diary: "We saw the moon at the edge of a mountain, but it rose up from the waves and set in the waves." With one poem: "As we watch, the waves come and go, like fragrant Spring flowers in the moonlight." This print is a copy from the late Meiji period (1868-1912).
