About this work

Lady-in-waiting and nobleman on a nocturnal voyage through a snowy landscape. This scene refers to chapter 51 'Ukifune' from The Tale of Genji. In this episode the grandson of Genji, Prince Niou, runs away with the lady Ukifune one night. The Tale of Genji (Genji monogatari) was written in the Heian period (794-1185) by the lady-in-waiting Murasaki Shikibu. With three poems.
