About this work
Yang Kuei-fei (719-56), known as Yôkihi in Japan, was the favorite concubine of the Chinese T'ang emperor Hsüan Tsung (685-762). The cherry blossom named after her (Yôkihisakura) is said to have originated in the city of Nara. With two poems, one poem telling of the origin of the cherry blossom: The cherry blossom known as the Yôkihi comes from China - therefore she blooms in spring in the Yoshino mountains - and these are, indeed, south of Nara.
