About this work
Against a black background, a warrior with bow, sitting on a rock, is depicted. Next to him a woman with long hair. The woman is Tamamo no Mae (the Jewel Girl). She is possessed by a fox but is so beautiful that she became the beloved of Emperor Toba (1103-1156). When the emperor fell ill, the blame was placed on her, after which she fled the palace. Eventually she was shot by a hunter after which she turned into a rock. With three poems.
