About this work

The warrior Akechi Samanosuke Mitsuharu (?-1582), nephew of Akechi Mitsuhide, fords a lake on his horse. Mitsuharu was a vassal of Oda Nobunaga (1534-82). Nobunaga was betrayed by Mitsuhide, whereupon Mitsuharu marched to his castle to kill his wife and children, after which he committed suicide. With two poems.
