About this work

Two parts of a miniature room screen. View of a palace with courtiers and, left, a beach with pine trees and flying cranes. The courtiers in the palace sit around a young pine tree; this was an old tradition on the first day of the new year and was originally probably a fertility ritual. With two poems.
