About this work
The actor Ichikawa Danjûrô VII (1791-1859) in his free time, standing on a boat with pipe in hand. The poem by Shakuyakutei speaks of 'sasou mizu', asking for water, a well-known phrase from a poem by Ono no Komachi. The six classical poets, including Komachi, are chosen in the preface of the Kokinwakashû, An anthology of poets from past and present. With two poems.
