About this work

Two merchants conclude a trade agreement at a quay. They shake hands. One of them swears an oath. The personifications of Deceit (Fraus) and Falsehood (Fallacia) accompany them. A blindfolded (and thus ignorant) notary records the (false) agreement. The print has three inscriptions (two in Latin and one in Dutch) and is part of an eight-part series on the abuses in litigation.
