About this work
On a stone arch is a portrait medallion of the writer Justus Lipsius. On either side, the personifications of Philosophy and Politics depict the main subjects within his oeuvre. Next to the arch, two portrait busts of ancient authors edited by Lipsius: Seneca and Tacitus. Next to them, Minerva and Mercury, and the seated personifications of Virtue (left) and Prudence (right). In the center, the title.
