About this work

The cannon boat of Jan van Speyk overpowered by the Belgians, 5 February 1831. A Belgian soldier tramples the Dutch flag, several sailors jump overboard. Several Belgians attack the ship with axes and hatchets. Third print in a series of four plates on the history of Jan van Speyk. With two four-line verses in the caption.
