About this work
Bauer created a series of eight etchings as illustrations for the prose poem Akëdysséril by Villiers de l'Isle Adam, which was translated into Dutch by Lodewijk van Deyssel (pseudonym of Karel Joan Lodewijk Alberdingk Thijm). This is a poster for the print album in which the etchings were included. A princess seated on an elephant ridden by a man.
