About this work
On the right, Mercury has just beheaded Argus. In the center, Juno sits by her peacock to place Argus's eyes in the tail of the bird. Io flees in the guise of a white cow. In the background, several figures, including a shepherd and a farmer, are at the edge of a village with a church. In the sky, Juno departs in her chariot drawn by two peacocks.
