About this work
Toorop and his family lived in Katwijk aan Zee from 1890 to 1892 and from 1899 to 1904. The harsh life led by fishermen features in many of his prints from this period. This print, carried out in drypoint, however, has an almost idyllic character. Toorop enjoyed experimenting with impressions in different colours, and sometimes also hand-coloured his prints.
