Mary as a black woman stands with a large child on her shoulder in a landscape on Tahiti. In the background stands a woman with folded hands. With this unique print the artist applied the monotype technique where he indicated the contours of the scene with a brush and blue watercolour on a glass or metal plate and coloured in some areas with light red and light green. Before the paint dried he made a print and possibly added some colour accents afterwards with the brush on the print. This seems to be the case with the red on the dress and the black area on the ground next to Mary.
