Rome Produces Fame and Art

A stone with the plan of Rome is crowned with three crowns and stands on a base, where the Roman motto S.P.Q.R. is carved. The stone is flanked by Fame with a trumpet, dressed as a Roman soldier, and by Painting, with painter's staff, brushes and palette, which crowns the stone with a laurel wreath. Print is part of a series of Roman ruins and coastal landscapes after prints by Willem van Nieulandt. This series is a copy of the series, which Claes Jansz Visscher made after Van Nieulandt.
