City view of the Seine and Pont-au-Change in Paris. On the right, on the bank of the Île de la Cité, stands the Palais de Justice with its gate and, at the corner, the tower with the clock. In front of the bridge, the bathhouses on the water are visible, and behind the bridge, the tower of the Pompe Notre-Dame just peeks out. The artist influenced the atmosphere of the cityscape in different states by adding ever-changing details. In this version, a man in the water of the Seine tries to attract the attention of men in a small boat. On the bridge, a funeral procession with a hearse is walking, and in the sky, a balloon floats with the text Speranza (Hope).
