About this work
A man behind a plough drawn by two horses on a field in a wooded environment. Around the trunk of the tree on the left sits a snake. Its head is held back by a lightning bolt, held by a female figure. In the background of the forest, three female figures are making music; on the right stands Christ as the Good Shepherd with a flock of sheep. An illustration of the saying of Christ 'Whoever puts his hand to the plough and looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God' (Luke 9:62), and God's curse on the serpent (Genesis 3:14-15).
