About this work

Two vagrants by a fence. The standing man is begging with his hat, leaning on a stick. The other man is sitting beside his crutches. In the background, several trees and houses. The print is part of a series of 32 prints with genre scenes. At the time this series was created, 'kreupel' was a generic term used to describe a physical impairment of the lower body.
