About this work

History with book and pen is surrounded by personifications of ancient Greek states and Minerva with shield as personification of wisdom to support her. Next to her stands Sparta with the laws of Lycurgus. In front of them lies Achaea with a map of the Achaean League on the ground. Behind her lies Sicily surrounded by soldiers, by whom she is unleashed. In the background the volcano Etna spewing. In the frame of the cartouche maps of Greece and Sicily.
